Kathmandu, Nepal – The Cabinet meeting held on 26th of December 2018 decided to agree on long demanding reciprocal visa regime concern of US government. The new rule will grant five years multiple visa to US citizens who are applying for a tourist visa in Nepal.
iKeyNepal has confirmed with the Information Minister, Gokul Baskota about the new directives from the government of Nepal. According to the new rule, American with the tourist visa can stay a maximum of 180 days every year in Nepal.
However, the new directives will come into effect starting from January 1, 2019. All the American travelers who apply for a tourist visa in Nepal before this date will abide by the previous tourist’s visa rules of Nepal government.
For your information, according to the previous rules – American citizen who travels in Nepal under the tourist visa was paying $22 for 15 days of stay, $40 for 30 days of stay or $100 for 90 days of stay. As well as, if their journey exceeds more than 90 days, they were paying $2 per day for each extra day of stay in Nepal.
As the new rule comes into effect from January 1, 2019; all US citizens who will be granted the five years multiple entry visa in Nepal is going to pay only a flat $160.
According to Baskota, at the same time; Nepal government has also directed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate with US Embassy in Kathmandu to wave the additional fee for Nepalese citizens who are applying for student visa. He added Nepal government is hoping that the US Embassy will wave the additional fee for student visa applicant according to their demand. FYI – All Nepalese citizens who are applying for student’s visa in the US should pay $200 additional fee.
US Embassy of Kathmandu welcome the decision about their long demanding reciprocal visa regime between two countries and thanked the Nepal government for their cooperation.
